As we start a new phase in life we always have to find out where we stand in the "pecking order". Whether it be a new job or a new group of friends there is a certian order that occures amongst individuals. That is not to say that any one person is more important than any others but we all find our spot in our groups. You see this everytime you bring a new animal into the house.
What brings me to this point is yesterday I had defend my position in the pecking order at work. Maybe because my coworkers don't know me very well...They know me much better now.
Yesterday started off very productive and I was proud of myself for getting so much work done in such a short amount of time. I took time to eat lunch with my husband, something I hadn't done in a couple weeks. I then took off to my main office that is in another little town nearby. I spent about an hour and a half hashing out the new laws with my boss N and getting caught up with her. I really like her, she seems very understanding and supportive. My boss is walking me to the door and we are talking when all of a sudden I am approached by a coworker. (Now this coworker is the one in the pack that would eat last at the food bowl.) Obviously, this was a test of pecking order for her. She proceeds to interrupt N and asks me if I ever turned in this certain paperwork that was due months ago. I very sternly told her yes and like I explained it to her the action had been completed a while ago and she did not need to worry about it. Well she kept going... As many of you know, that know me, this didn't settle well. She continued with how she was digging for this paperwork and she couldn't find it and it wasn't clear to her whether it was done or not. Well this made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I finally had to stop her and explain it all to her again, and I am sure it wasn't in a very professional tone. I finally got my point across and she shutup and turned back around to her desk. N my boss told me to be careful driving back to Troy and I came on home. I was HOT all the way home. How dare she do that to me. I had explained everything to her a couple of times and she is going to show me out infront of my boss...I think not. If she thought I was going to be the last one to eat from the bowl she was sadly mistaken!

I remember you talking about this co-worker. Do you want us to beat her up? Because we will, you know.... Love you!
Way to stand your ground and put her in her place! A big WOOT WOOT for the REAL Debi Stone!! XO
I like what you wrote about the pecking order and everyone having a place in their groups. Our group certainly has it's pecking order and it's funny to see the dynamic of how well it works after all these years. Good for you for standing up for yourself - not that I'm surprised! Of course, J would be shocked since you are so shy and insecure!! :-)
